Barcelona announced via their official club Twitter account on Wednesday morning that midfielder Denis Suarez had been omitted from their 18-man squad to face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night, and Arsenal fans have been quick to react to the news.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the 25-year-old throughout this January transfer window, and reports in The Mirror on Tuesday suggested they were keen to seal a loan deal for the Spaniard by the weekend.

Now the La Liga giants have signed Kevin-Prince Boateng – as reported by BBC Sport – who has replaced Suarez in the party to face Sevilla, an exit may have just moved a step closer to happening.

While the one-cap Spain international has been in and around the squad in recent weeks, he still has only featured for a total of 257 minutes this season, as per Transfermarkt, and would surely fancy his chances of playing more regularly in the Premier League with Unai Emery’s side.

Should he end up arriving at the Emirates Stadium, the versatile player, who can feature in central midfield or on the wing, would likely be competing with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi for a spot in the starting XI – with The Mirror claiming Suarez’s arrival would see Aaron Ramsey leave this month.

Arsenal supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the latest update, and while one said “welcome to Arsenal Denis Suarez”, another said “Arsenal please sign him ASAP”.
